Under section 202 of the Local Government Act 1999, leases or licences over community land exceeding five years must undergo community consultation. The purpose of this consultation is to:
With a secure lease and licence, the Club can continue to confidently invest in their premises and support the ongoing delivery of its sports programs, youth development, and community events.
In addition, a long-term tenure will assist the Club with their financial planning, allowing them to budget effectively. A stable presence will also assist in sponsorship attraction and partnerships.
Overall, a long-term agreement would support the Club's growth and long-term vision, enabling the NAFC to build a legacy within the community, while planning for the future and continued success.
The proposed lease and licence agreement will not change the existing community access to the Oval.
The proposal ensures that the community will continue to benefit from use of Prospect Oval by stipulating that the ground will remain accessible for community use whenever it is not used for structured sports activities organised by the club, or during official match days.
This means that the community can still use the Oval for recreational purposes, casual sports, and other informal activities during times when the facility is not being used for North Adelaide Football Club (NAFC) games, events or training sessions.
As well as providing certainty and supporting the Club's growth and long-term vision, the longer Lease Agreement will also allow for better financial planning and sponsorship attraction.
This consultation is not connected to recent engagement activity on the Prospect Lifstyle Precinct (PLP). It was initiated by an approach from the North Adelaide Football Club with a formal request for a long‐term Lease Agreement and would have occured regardless of the PLP.
