We recently celebrated a momentous occasion with the unveiling of Kumangka at Broadview, our new community and sports hub at Broadview Oval.
Previously referred to as the Broadview Oval Community and Sports Hub, Kumangka at Broadview is a contemporary and long lasting community asset, designed to maximise accessibility and use by all members of our community and beyond. It connects to the surrounding public open space and amenity, creating an active and integrated community destination, promoting better health and wellbeing for all who visit.
The new facility is located on the centre wing position of Broadview Oval, replacing the existing Broadview Football Club facility.
From the poignant Smoking Ceremony to uplifting speeches, the day was a testament to our dedication to quality infrastructure and community investment. Witnessing the kick-off of the Broadview Football Club's season and enjoying family-friendly activities made it an unforgettable event.
Together, we are embracing a brighter future, united in our community's spirit and shared vision.
We are pleased to announce that the building works have been completed and the builder is finalising defects to the main building. The southern carpark demolition works have commenced with Lead and Asbestos removal which will continue until 9 February. The destructive demolition of the existing building will follow and it's anticipated to be ongoing for 2 weeks. Once the demolition has occurred the site bulk earthworks will follow as part of the carpark construction. The replacement of the oval track is almost finalised with the area being boxed out, imported quarry rubble placed and compacted. These works will be completed by the 9 February and the asphalt placed on the 14 February 2024
Welcome back to the latest update on the anticipated Broadview Community and Sports Hub. We are thrilled to share the remarkable progress in the size and scale of the new hub, which is now taking shape on the western boundary of the Broadview Oval | Yarnta Tutu Yarta. As we approach the final stages of the project, the natural tones and harmonious aesthetic of the building fabric are coming to life, making the completion of the new facility an exciting reality.
There has been great progress with the work over the last couple of months. The external façade consisting of brickwork, and metal cladding is substantially complete and settling into the park and oval surrounds. Internally the functional areas are well advanced with wall lings, tiling and ceilings complete. Painting is ongoing on level 1 and the joinery installation has also commenced.
The level 1 function spaces have been formed with an operable wall dividing the two spaces. These areas are flexible function and event spaces that can be either a large open plan suitable for large birthday or corporate functions or a smaller room suitable for community meetings, not-for-profit events, or an off-site corporate team event. These spaces will be available for hire soon. Check the flyer attached for more details.
The focus in October 2023 will be to complete the internal finishes, install the bar and kitchen facilities and complete floor finishes and painting. The external civil and landscaping works to the perimeter of the building will start from the 3 October, this will include reinstating the track, pavements, and landscaping.
The Stage 1 works which includes the main building is scheduled for completion on the 31 October 2023. Once completed Stage 2 will be triggered which includes demolition of the existing Football Club house and construction of the northern and southern carparks. Stage 2 is scheduled for completion in January 2024.

A Broadview Community and Sports Hub designed to make Australian football more accessible to women and support a wide range of community use is about to break ground in Broadview.
Less than six kilometres from Adelaide’s CBD, City of Prospect is creating a brand new $5 million hub, focusing on future-proofing local sports and recreation resources, and broadening their availability to the wider community.
City of Prospect Mayor Matt Larwood said the new Broadview Oval Community and Sports Hub will be a contemporary and long-lasting community asset.
“It’s fantastic to finally break ground and see this important project delivered for the Broadview area, and City of Prospect as a whole,” Matt said.
“The commencement of construction comes after more than two years of consultation with our community, in particular our unique Community Reference Group created specifically for this project.”
Broadview Football Club President, Shane Hodby said the redevelopment included constructing a new multi-level building, which is expected to be completed by December 2023.
“There will be spaces on the upper level available for the community to casually hire for groups of up to 280 people, which include use of a kitchen, bar and additional amenities,” Shane said.
“There’s also a gymnasium which will be available for the community, accessible toilets, and a café/kiosk.”
The redevelopment will also provide a reinvigorated home for the mighty Broadview Football Club, including additional home and away changerooms and amenities to support increasing female participation in football.
Surrounding landscaping will be updated to suit Broadview’s surrounding identity of leafy eucalypt trees, green grass and natural earth tones.
The Broadview Community and Sports Hub is funded in part through a $1.5 million grant from the Government of South Australia through the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing.
South Australian Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Hon Katrine Hildyard MP said the State Government is proud the development was progressing and would ensure more community members engaged in a range of sports.
“Sport brings us together and allows people to enjoy a sense of belonging and improve their physical, mental, and emotional health and wellbeing. This development will serve the local community well and enable more people, including more girls and women, to participate equally and actively," MP Hildyard said.
“Thank you to all who have advocated for, and worked towards, the project's commencement, including Lucy Hood MP and Andrea Michael's MP, City of Prospect and a number of passionate local community club members.”
City of Prospect CEO Chris White said the Council will make every effort to minimise impacts to residents, businesses and the local community during construction.
Some car parking will continue to be available near the building site, and the walking/running track around Broadview Oval’s perimeter will be maintained for the public,” Chris said.
“The dog park and playground will remain unaffected and surrounding residents have been provided with a detailed notification about the project’s commencement by our contracted delivery partner Sarah Constructions.”

The existing Broadview Football Clubrooms will be demolished and replaced with new a facility including two venue spaces for community hire, a gymnasium available for community use, unisex sporting changerooms, accessible amenities and a cafe/kiosk.
The former footprint of the clubrooms will be altered to new landscaped areas, additional tree planting and a carpark for the precinct.
The existing club rooms will be in use during the construction phase and are likely to be in use until the new Hub has been completed.
A construction site will be established in the existing car park and access will be maintained to the oval around the construction site.
During the works car parking will be restricted on the site, however at project completion, additional parking spaces will be provided in the location of the current clubrooms.
The unregulated pepper trees located central to the western oval boundary have been approved for removal. This will allow the running track to be re-aligned, access in and out of the new facility and improve the sight lines to the oval.
In addition to the nine new trees planted as a part of the Playspace Upgrade, an additional eight trees will be planted.
Membership of the Community Reference Group will include a range of relevant community representatives, including:
