Proposed Parking Management on Willcox Avenue

Project Overview

Consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the options.

As a local resident or property owner, Council is seeking your feedback on proposed parking management near your property on Willcox Avenue, Prospect.

Council is aware of traffic concerns regarding on-street parking on Willcox Avenue. When parking demand is high, vehicles have often been found to ignore the existing 'Narrow Street Parking' signage and park on both sides. This makes it difficult for two-way traffic to pass safely, as there is limited space for drivers to pull over and give way.

Additionally, the flip signs on the northern side of the street, which operate as a ‘No Stopping’ zone on weekends and public holidays during the SANFL season, have been known to create confusion.

What we're consulting on

Council aims to support safe traffic flow while balancing on-street parking for both residents and visitors. After reviewing the conditions, we have developed five proposed parking control options and the potential introduction of time-limited parking. We’re now seeking your feedback on the options below, including whether the changes should apply all year round or remain as they are.

Note that the potential on-street parking spaces for each option are based on an ideal situation. This assumes standard cars are parked close to the kerb and at least 3 metres of gap is left for passing traffic on the approximately 7m wide carriageway along Willcox Avenue.

1. Parking control options

Option 1:*No change, keep the current parking arrangements with minor controls where needed.

Potential on-street parking spaces: 55

Option 2: *Install yellow line markings extending one metre on both sides of each driveway.

Potential on-street parking spaces: 48

Option 3: No Stopping Zone along the northern side.

Potential on-street parking spaces: 24

Option 4: No Stopping Zone along the southern side.

Potential on-street parking spaces: 31

Option 5: Staggered No Stopping Zones at regular intervals to improve two-way traffic flow.

Potential on-street parking spaces: 27

The existing flip signs will remain under Option 1 and 2 and will be removed under the other options, i.e. 3, 4 & 5.

2. Introduction of time-limited parking between Prospect Road and Union Street

Option 1: No time limit

Option 2: 2-hour time limit (8am - 4pm weekdays only)

Option 3: 2-hour time limit (8am - 4pm at all times)

These time limits can be introduced together with any of the parking control options above, wherever on-street parking spaces are available.

The survey is now closed. Thanks for participating.
