The City of Prospect is committed to protecting and enhancing our local environment while supporting a sustainable, resilient future for our community.
To support this, we’ve developed a Draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2026 (ESS) that outlines Council’s environmental priorities and actions for the years ahead.
Building on the success of our 2018 Environmental Action Plan, the Strategy aligns with our Strategic Community Plan 2023–2027 and sets out a clear vision for our city:Prospect: A greener, engaged and more resilient community.
The draft ESS focuses on four main areas to reduce environmental impacts, boost sustainable practices, and support local action. These are: (i) Sustainable Urban Environment; (ii) Educate and Empower; (iii) Sustainable Waste Management; and (iv) Resilience. These themes are supported by 25 practical actions and measurable targets, ensuring Council remains accountable for delivering results.
What we're seeking feedback on
While our high-level targets must align with State and Federal environmental laws, how Council delivers these targets, the local programs we prioritise, and where we invest funding over the coming years is entirely up to your feedback. We would like to know:
* Does our proposed vision resonate with you?
* Are the four proposed themes focusing on the right environmental challenges for City of Prospect?
* Which of the 25 proposed actions should Council tackle first?
* What types of incentives, rebates, or workshops would help you take sustainable action at home or work?
* Are there any brilliant local ideas or opportunities we’ve missed?
