The draft Regional Public Health Plan (draft Plan) outlines how the City of Prospect will support and improve the health and wellbeing of people who live, work, study, visit and recreate in our city over the next five years. It identifies key priorities and actions that Council can influence through its services, facilities, planning, advocacy and partnerships.
The South Australian Public Health Act 2011 requires councils to prepare and regularly review a Regional Public Health Plan. The draft Plan aligns with the State Public Health Plan 2026 and Council’s Strategic Community Plan, helping to ensure local actions contribute to healthier, more connected, inclusive and resilient communities.
The draft Plan was informed by a review of local health, wellbeing, community and population data, Council’s existing services and strategic plans, community survey findings, and relevant State and regional priorities. It also considers emerging challenges and opportunities affecting the wellbeing of the City of Prospect community.
The draft Plan is structured around five themes that reflect the factors influencing health and wellbeing:
- Physical Health
- Mental Health
- Wellbeing
- Safety and Protection
- Urban and Economic Conditions
These themes guide the focus areas and actions proposed for the next five years.
The draft Plan provides a strategic framework to guide Council's priorities and decision-making over the next five years. Some actions may build on existing programs and services, while others may identify opportunities for new initiatives, partnerships or advocacy, subject to future planning and resources.
Community feedback will help Council understand whether the proposed priorities and actions reflect local needs and expectations. While the Plan must align with State public health requirements, community input can help shape the actions, areas of focus and implementation approaches within the draft Plan.
Once endorsed, the Plan will provide a clear framework for initiatives that support better health and wellbeing for everyone in our community. This includes creating welcoming public spaces, encouraging healthy lifestyles, supporting mental wellbeing, improving access and inclusion, protecting environmental health, and helping our community adapt to changing challenges such as climate change.
Following the close of consultation, all feedback will be collected and a Community Engagement Report prepared for consideration by Council. This report will include a summary of the key themes and an outline of any recommended changes to the draft Plan.
Once endorsed, both the Regional Public Health Plan and the Community Engagement Report will be available publicly on Council’s Engagement Hub.
