Prospect Gardens / Narnu Wirra Court Upgrade

Project overview

Council is planning to renew the court surface at Prospect Gardens/Narnu Wirra (corner of Mawson Street and West Terrace, Nailsworth) to create a safer, more durable recreational space for our community.

The project provides an opportunity to rethink the current court line markings and decide whether to keep a traditional layout or introduce multi-sport markings for emerging games like pickleball and futsal.

Council has developed two court layout options, each catering to a different mix of ball sports, and is seeking community feedback to inform the final design.

What we're seeking feedback on

Currently the courts are marked as one basketball court, three tennis courts and two netball courts. We want the new court markings to reflect how you like to play, so we’re asking you to tell us which layout suits our community best.

Option 1: Resurfaces the existing courts with 1 basketball court, 2 tennis courts (1 dedicated), and 2 netball courts (1 dedicated).
Option 2: Introduces 1 non-enclosed futsal court, 2 pickleball courts, 2 tennis courts, 1/4 basketball court, and 1/4 netball court.

The existing courts require renewal, and Council is planning future use of the facility. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It can be played as singles or doubles on a court about the same size as a badminton court.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing participation sports and Council is exploring whether it could complement existing recreation opportunities within the City of Prospect. Community feedback will help determine the level of support for its inclusion.

Futsal is a fast-paced version of soccer that is played on a smaller court with five players per team.

Council has been investigating opportunities to introduce a broader range of recreation activities. One concept option includes a futsal court to provide greater flexibility and attract a wider range of users.

All concept options include tennis as part of the future use of the site, although the number and arrangement of courts may vary between options.

These elements are being investigated as part of the concept planning process.

No. All proposed works are confined to the existing court surface. No trees will be removed, and there are no changes to the adjacent playground, Pétanque clubrooms, soccer pitch, or carpark.

Construction is not currently funded. Council is presently undertaking concept planning and consultation. Any future detailed design and construction would be subject to Council approval and future budget considerations.

Cost estimates are currently being investigated as part of the concept design process. The final cost will depend on the preferred option selected, and the scope ultimately approved by Council.

All feedback will be reviewed and reported to Council. It will help shape the preferred concept before any future detailed design work is undertaken.
