Draft Community Engagement Policy

Project overview

Let’s change the conversation

Thank you for taking the time to help shape how we connect with you.

In late 2025, the State Government introduced a new Community Engagement Charter. This legislative shift requires all South Australian councils to modernise their approach to public consultation.

We’re using this opportunity to transition from consultation to conversation, ensuring our communication practices meet modern community expectations.

Why community engagement matters

Local government works best when it’s informed by local knowledge. Nobody knows Prospect better than those who live, work, and play here every day, and your insights help Council understand the real-world impact of its choices. Your feedback on Council proposals is a vital piece of the puzzle - helping your elected representatives weigh community views alongside financial realities, expert advice, environmental impacts, legal obligations, and our city’s long-term sustainability.

Our updated draft Community Engagement Policy focuses on transparency, smart resource management, and a formal commitment to always close the loop, so you can clearly see how your input influenced the final decision.

How to get involved

We’re seeking your feedback on the Draft Community Engagement Policy itself and your personal communication preferences. You can share your thoughts in several ways.

This can be completed anonymously - you do not need to register with Engagement Hub or provide your name or contact details to provide feedback.
