Your say on January Citizenship Ceremonies

Project overview

Consultation is now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. All feedback received was compiled and presented in a report during the Council Meeting on 28 November 2023.

Most survey respondents during the consultation period and Council members during the Council Meeting voted for City of Prospect to hold its January citizenship ceremony on a business day, three days before or after 26 January, starting from 2024. Detailed outcomes of this consultation can be found in the Document Library on the right side of the page.

City of Prospect invites you to have your say on when we observe our January citizenship ceremonies.

In 2019, the then-Federal Government mandated that councils had to hold their January citizenship ceremonies on 26 January (Australia Day). Prior to this direction, City of Prospect held its January citizenship ceremonies in the week prior to 26 January.

This decision was reversed earlier this year, and councils can now choose to hold their January citizenship ceremonies up to three days before or after 26 January (between 23-29 January).

We want to know your thoughts. Participate in our quick poll below.

Community consultation opens Monday, 23 October and closes at 5pm Friday, 10 November 2023.
