Council is part way through the process of developing its first Draft Tree Strategy 2021-2026 and is now seeking community input to finalise the Strategy.
The trees in our City's streets, parks and on private property make an important contribution to our community. They provide multiple benefits including supporting flora and fauna and reducing the impacts of climate change, while creating a liveable City that adds character to our neighbourhood and economic value to our properties.
Our Draft Tree Strategy sets out a vision for keeping our City leafy for future generations and provides the framework for how Council will plant more trees while maintaining, protecting and retaining our existing trees, and engaging our community to protect, retain and plant trees on private land.
The Draft Tree Strategy 2021-2026 :
- Provides an overview of the number of trees in Prospect and where they are located
- Has a target to increase tree canopy cover for a cooler, greener City
- Prioritises the protection and creation of "Green Tunnels" - streets lined with trees where their canopies touch across the street to form a tunnel
- Considers current and emerging issues, opportunities and trends across our community relating to trees
- Contains an Action Plan with 55 actions
Have Your Say on the Draft Strategy by completing the short survey, posting an idea or providing a written submission.
Consultation opens 5 October and closes 2 November 2021.
All feedback received as part of the consultation process will be presented in a report to Council at the December 2021 or January 2022 Council Meeting.
